I recently purchased Chess Openings Wizard Professional Build 41. It's the improved follow on to the Bookup chess database program. Normally, Mike Leahy., the developer of the program, sells it for $197 dollars but he's running a holiday special. With the special he is accepting a $10.00 dollar initial payment with three monthly payments of $47 dollars for a total of $150.00. He's also offering to see the program for $147.00 dollars with a one-time payment.
He's offering a pretty good deal, but that's not the reason I purchased it. In my opinion, Mike has created something that will forever revolutionize chess training. Mike even admits he's afraid that he won't be taken seriously. He added a new feature to Chess Openings Wizard called Speed Learning. With one push of a button you can create up to thousands of "flash card" chess positions. You can select the entire database and maybe get thousands of positions or you can select one variation for hundreds of positions. It doesn't take a genius to do this. It's as simple as pressing a button or two. You can even adjust the speed from my pace "snails pace" to incredibly fast. It superbly passed the dummy test--me!
In addition to Speed Learning he has included a function called Speed Testing where you can see how effective you learning is.
Mike developed the concept based on photo reading. I believe Mike got the idea from reading a photo reading review from one of his previous Bookup purchasers on how Bookup greatly improved his intuition in a short amount of time.
For more on photo reading I highly recommed the following link: http://www.photoreading.com/ My friend used this technique and the results were simply amazing. You might think I'm joking but I saw him on several occasions while in a book store reading large books in a matter of minutes. Not only that, but he could almost repeat the entire book to me. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing, but it was true. At the time I didn't know about photo reading and I just assumed this guy was a genius. He also used this technique to become one of the best intelligence analysts. Great memory is an invaluable asset!
Check out the following link for a video showing the great mentalist, Derren Brown, using photo reading: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFGG6zWByhM
With one click of a button you instantly have thousands of tactical positions on your opening. No more need of purchasing books like "Tactics in the French" etc. Not only that but using the power of the mind you can development an incredible amount of intuition with this feature developing intiution in days or weeks not months or years!

BOTTOM LINE: I fully understand why people would doubt the effectiveness of this program. However, after spending months on learning how the brain works, especially the subconscious, I don't have any doubt this can be effective. The subconscious remembers everything. The key is patience and repetition. Even without these functions, the program is still a great database program. If you are interested in seeing it before purchasing then let me know and stop by my apartment for a hands-on demonstration. I'm sure you'll like it.
Not only that, but I have many databases created that are backsolved with Rybka that I'll be willing to share with you. My databases alone would pay for your purchase probably many times over.
If you do decide to purchase then send Mike an e-mail (mike@bookupmembers.com) and tell him that Paul McGaugh(mcgaughp@yahoo.com) referred you. If Mike is nice enough to pass me a database then I'll be winning to share it with you. (I don't make any money from these referrals.)
My friend, Nathanial--former US Military Chess Champion--chatted with me yesterday evening. He was very pleased with his purchase. I am too! I'm glad I did it.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,
ReplyDeleteDo you use CPT(www.chesspositiontrainer.com). If yes, how do you compare it with COW ?
Thanks!
Sorry for replying so late. I'll download it and check it out. It seems like a good deal so far. I'll try it out and will comment on it later.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded the 3.3 version and it seems to have some bugs. It kept locking up on me. Other than that it seems pretty cool for a freeware program.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting to see if the soon-to-come 4.0 version will work better for me.
Hi Paul,
ReplyDeletethe "soon-to-come" version 4 has been finally released December 2011...
I'm curious how it works for you:
