Truth is a Pathless Land

I came across the great spiritual teacher, Krishnamurti, about two years ago.

The article, "Truth is a Pathless Land," changed my viewpoint on religion forever.

I truly believe organized religion puts you in a "shell", separating you from the Universal Infinite Awareness.  In other words, it limits you and closes your mind, putting you in a spiritual shell.

In 1929, Krishnamurti was at the height of his "fame."  He had an opportunity that many would have treasured--the chance to become a head of a new religious organization.  He turned down the opportunity and gave the following speech.  Check it out below:

I own two books of his that are very interesting:

  1. It seems to me organized religion is a business first. They're selling something but they don't want you to think of it that way. Imagine if Burger King made sure their customers gave 10% of their income to them. It's not a religion so much as it is a shewd business.

  2. I agree. It's a business first. My neighbor did not pay her tithes and she was kicked out of her church. Her pastor announced it to the crowd that he was removing her.

I told her she should thank him for introducing her to God by removing her from that church.

Sounds like a cult to me. He clearly intended to send a message to the rest of the church.

    cheers

  3. That should have been *shrewd. Have you seen the documentary by Bill Maher called "Religulous"? It was pretty good. The gist of it was, you don't need another person or organization to get to God and that any person or organization that tells you that you need something they have is full of it.

  4. It sounds like an interesting movie. I would like to see it someday.
