Take your opponent where 2+2=5 or down a very narrow path

This correspondence was against a 22-year old player from Azerbaijan. Players from this country are known to possess highly-developed tactical skills. So, I take him away from his strengths and grind him out. After 45...e5! (one of the most powerful slow moves I have ever played) he had a very narrow path. He had to deal with the dangerous threat of 46...g6+, leading to mate in several lines.

Tal gave this word of advice: "play it where 2 + 2 = 5 and take your opponent down a narrow path where there is only one way out." That's what happened here.

Rather than facing a slow defeat, my opponent left the game without resigning.

Here's the game:

cheers

Paul
