Ramirez vs Vela, 24 Jan 11

Ramirez played the English Opening and Vela played well, equalizing early. Then suddenly Vela appeared to not really play like he is capable of.

I can only say it appeared as if Vela was playing under a spell as he missed opportunities to develop counterplay. But sometimes when you see a "snake dancing" in front of you you get in a trace. Like Vela has correctly stated, he has done fine in the opening, only to go down in the middlegame. In fact that has been correct throughout these matches against Jose and Juan. For some reason around moves 20-25 Vela has made slight innacurracies or errors and losing in the endgame. Vela is a good endgame player, but it's hard to play bad endgame positions.

Jose finished in nice style and capped his achievement with a nice tactic with the knight, resulting in a won game.

Vela didn't look like himself in this game. I don't know why. Only he can answer that question. He's had good positions in every game of this match. It's a pity that only slight inaccuracies or incorrect plans are putting him out of the game and preventing us from observing his true capability. Will Vela "buckle down" and focus more on moves 20-25? Or will this unfortunate trend continue? Speaking for myself, I believe Vela will correct this and will play very well in the remainder of the match.

  1. All the time i was waiting for Vela to play e5, and he never played, i don't know why? Than he gave me the opportunity to attack on both side of the board ( King and Queen sides ), when i played 17.Rb1, i thought it for 31 minutes, I wanted to play 17.e3, but that was to complicated for my analysis over the board, so i decided to play more calmly but with pressure. After we exchanged the Queens i was sure my game is much better than my opponent's. I'm very happy my English Opening killed my friend one more time!!!
