Below are the match results (not in any particular order):
Reynolds vs Imada
Rapid Play (G/20)
Game 1: Reynolds vs Imada 0-1
Game 2: Imada vs Reynolds 1/2-1/2
Result: Imada advances; Reynolds drops to loser's bracket
NOTE: Todd Imada mentioned it was a tough struggle and it certainly appeared so as Chris "dug in" and played trench warfare. Although I only saw a few glimpses of the game I was impressed.
Royce Pereira vs Yoseph Debesai
Rapid Play (G/20)
Game 1: Pereira vs Debesai 1-0
Game 2: Debesai vs Pereira 0-1
RESULT: Pereira advances; Debesai drops to loser's bracket

Juan Becerra vs Jared Rich

Game 2: Rich vs Becerra 1/2-1/2
Blitz Match (G/3)
Game 1: Becerra vs Rich 0-1
Game 2: Rich vs Becerra 0-1
Armageddon Blitz (White 6 min, Black 5; Black has draw odds)
Game 1: Rich vs Becerra 0-1
Result: Becerra advances; Rich drops to loser's bracket
NOTE: This was a real "dog fight". I felt like biting my nails when watching it. Rich said he was exhausted after play and he should have been. But to Rich's credit he found the reserve to come back and win his next match. GREAT MATCH!
Jose Reyes vs Erick Sissine
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Reyes vs Sissine 1-0
Game 2: Sissine vs Reyes 0-1
RESULT: Reyes advances; Sissine drops to loser's bracket
Glenn Bidari vs Ramirez
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Bidari vs Ramirez 0-1
Game 2: Ramirez vs Bidari 0-1
Blitz Match (G/3)
Game 1: Bidari vs Ramirez 1-0
Game 2: Ramirez vs Bidari 0-1
RESULT: Bidari advances; Ramirez advances to loser's bracket
NOTE: For a moment I thought this was going to be an upset. In either case, this matchup makes for an interesting tournament as one strong player was moved to the loser's bracket. My prediction is that Ramirez will either meet Bidari or Reyes in the final.
Royce Pereira vs Jon Trivett
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Pereira vs Trivett 1/2-1/2
Game 2: Trivett vs Pereira 1/2-1/2
Bltiz Match (G/3)
Game 1: Pereira vs Trivett 1-0
Game 2: Trivett vs Pereira 0-1
RESULT: Pereira advances; Trivett drops to loser's bracket
NOTE: This was a real knockdown dragout. These guys started on hyper-move in the Blitz match. I swear about 15 moves or more were made before the clock even ticked down. In my opinion Jon is returning to form. He was playing like he was 20 years younger. Royce is playing like a blitz computer with no fear of any opponent. If Royce keeps his cool and continues to play like this, he could go far in this tournament and with a break or two, we might see him in the final four. However, he has a "mountain" to climb and if he takes one game at a time, he'll surprise many.
Vivian Liu vs Jose Reyes
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Liu vs Reyes 0-1
Game 2: Reyes vs Liu 1-0
RESULT: Reyes advances; Liu drops to loser's bracket
Danny Burns vs Todd Imada
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Burns vs Imada 1/2-1/2
Game 2: Imada vs Burns 1-0
RESULT: Imada advances; Burns drops to loser's bracket
Juan Becerra vs Martin Burch
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Becerra vs Birch 0-1
Game 2: Burch vs Becerra 1-0
RESULT: Burch advances; Becerra drops to loser's bracket
Juan Jauregui vs Ernesto Ruiseco
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Jauregui vs Ruiseco 1-0
Game 2: Ruiseco vs Jauregui 0-1
RESULT: Jauregui advances; Ruiseco drops to loser's bracket
NOTE: This was like a knife fight in total darkness. It was crazy!
Jared Rich vs Jon Trivett
Rapid Play Match (G/20)
Game 1: Rich vs Trivett 1/2-1/2
Game 2: Trivett vs Rich 0-1
RESULT: Rich advances; Trivett is eliminated due to 2nd loss

Bless you for the awesome commentary and postings Paul!
ReplyDeleteI regret that some of the players who like slower games might feel left out. One of my concerns was making the first game of the KO a longer time limit like G45 and possibly interferring with the club schedule. Its probably good to do a knockout event for a change, but I think its something people would tire of quickly. I did see excitement in a few guys to include Rich and Imada. If it brings some players back to the club then I think we achieved something no matter how small. As with anything, there will be good and bad though. I am surprised at the number of people who showed up for the Rapid Play/Blitz format. I thought that I was only one of a small few who liked Rapid Play and Blitz.
