Vela vs Ramirez, 3/6/2011

This game was played Sunday night, March 6, 2011 matching Vela versus Ramirez. Before the match I was expecting to see a "new" Vela with a return to the form of his previous match against Jose. Sadly, I was disappointed. Once again he didn't play up to his standards and I can only guess there is some psychological reason behind it. By no means am I suggesting that Vela is intimidated by his opponents. I don't believe that for a second. I firmly believe that he should be winning games in this match and I cannot understand why he isn't. Is it due to psychological reasons or he is just not up to form? I cannot answer that question.

They wind up playing the Grunfeld Defence and soon Vela gets a very difficult position to play. Jose has more talent than just playing at a high tactical level. Most players are unaware that Jose can play with patience and positional skill. Its difficult to face this type of opponent. For example, they can "strangle" you and then "take a knife out" and gut you. It can make for a lethal combination at times.

After getting a difficult position to play, White seemed to lack a plan and understandably so. Black seemed to have all the options while White's options seemed to be limited. Amazingly, after all that the game became equal again, but White still seemed to lack a good plan. Then the game appeared to enter a phase of time trouble (I can only assume.) as Black went into tactical mode and converted the point. Here's the game:

  1. Very good comments Paul! Now I'm the leader of the Spanish Torture Match. Vela is in deep trouble, he must to react quickly if he want to have chance to win the match. I was comfortable with my game, i was patient with the position, i could have play tactical from the very early of the game, but i decided to wait a litter longer and pass the move 22 and see if you was right saying Vela's game collapsing on moves 20s. Finally I'm happy i making my friend suffer on the board! Thank Paul for your comments!!!
