I used to believe the move 1. b4 (referred to as the Sokolsky, Polish Opening or Oranutang) was simply a bad opening. In 1998-2000 one of my German teammates used to play it religiously in tournaments even in blitz play with good results. However, it looked strange to me because I did not understand the strategic concepts. Below is a game where my opponent accepts my gambit and falls into dangerous waters. Instead of throwing him a life preserver I toss him a big rock! It's definitely a good opening to have in your repertoire.
