This game was a tough, strategical struggle. Once again I start out with 1. b4 and play transposes to the English Opening. This opening, which is very strategic in nature, can be very difficult to play. In these lines players usually use a lot of time making strategic decisions.
My opponent took his time and played very sound, logical chess. I made many second best moves and after a while gained a slight advantage. My small advantage didn't last for long and my opponent surprised me with counterplay. On move 42. He missed the drawing move, 42. Qf3, after which a draw is forced by perpetual check. Instead, he gave up the exchange and I had a winning endgame. However, both of us were low on time and anything can happen in these situations. As a result, he blundered with 49. f6? and I had a clear-cut win.
Congratulations to R. Johnson for a game well played!
