This is Game 1 of the Vela-Ramirez match held from November through December 2010. The match consisted of 16 games.
What makes this match interesting is the constrasting styles of the players. Jose is the dynamic, tactical player and Vela is the immovable object. It's the timeless chess duel of tactician versus strategian. It's reminicent of the Spassky-Petrosian, Tal-Botvinnik and Kasparov-Karpov matches. Not to mention it's a long-standing rivalry going back to 1999.
The analysis provided is by me with a bit of help from my chess library and Fritz 5. I encourage the readers to comment on the game and please feel free to turn your engines on!
If you like fighting chess then you have to see it! Okay, on to the galleros!
Jose came out charging in Game 1 with nice dynamic play. Vela held the balance and awaited his opportunity to strike back.
