Vela-Ramirez Match 2010 (Game 8)

The score is 5 to 2 in favour of Vela. There was a rumor "floating around" before the game that someone from the Vela camp consulted a psychic, inquiring as to what opening move Ramirez would play with White. An insider (who wishes to keep their name in private) said the psychic said that Jose would play 1. e4. I'd like to know who that idiot was. Bartender, please pour me a glass of whatever that person was drinking!

A psychic once told me that my future held three things for me: becoming very rich, becoming a B class chessplayer and having beautiful women at my feet. Too bad only two out of three came true. My biggest regret is that I never became a B-class chessplayer! Oh well, what are psychics good for anyway! When you think about it two out of three isn't that bad.

Well, I didn't need a psychic to know that Ramirez would play his trusty 1. c4! which almost wins by force whenever he plays it. Now is not the time for experimenting, but to go with something proven.

This is the most important game of the match at least for Jose. Let's see how he responds.

The score is now 5 to 3 in favor of Vela. Jose has a chance, but he must remain focused.
